DECISION-MAKERS GATHER IN QUEBEC CITY AT FCM

Canadian decision-makers - the politicians and civil servants who set and approve budgets, develop plans and hold the public purse strings at municipal, provincial and federal levels - will meet in Quebec City this May for the largest gathering of its kind in the country.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities is holding its 71st Annual Conference and Municipal Expo from May 30 to June 2 in the historic Quebec capital, offering four days of seminars and discussion of topics important to the municipal sector. And, for two days of that period, the FCM will also host some of the top companies in the municipal sector, showing off their innovative and interesting products and services.

Each year, the Municipal Expo provides a showcase for top municipal suppliers to show their wares in front of key decision makers - more than 1,500 political leaders and professionals from the FCM’s nearly 1,400 member municipalities are expected to attend the event at the Quebec City Convention Centre. Exhibitors offer some of the best products and services available to cities and towns across the country. Items on display in the past have ranged from services such as insurance and legal services to innovative water and wastewater products - and many others aimed at helping municipalities operate more efficiently, more effectively, and more environmentally friendly. The Municipal Expo is open on Friday, May 30 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. - with coffee and muffins and a complimentary lunch offered - and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31. The FCM Conference isn’t just about the exhibition, though; fully registered delegates can take advantage of programming including plenary and keynote sessions and study tours. For information on the Municipal Expo, contact Seán Kelly at 613-907-6235, or e-mail skelly@fcm.ca. The FCM web site is www.fcm.ca.
