COMPLYMD BRIDGES THE GAP BETWEEN PHYSICIANS AND MEDICAL CODERS
Communication breakdowns between physicians and medical coders may be a thing of the past with the introduction of ComplyMD’s software. Medical coders have long had the difficult task of deciphering what physicians dictate or hand write about a patients’ treatment. This can lead to delays and perhaps even billing and documentation errors which then get repeated in downstream healthcare IT systems. ComplyMD’s next generation patient encounter system transforms this process, making it simpler for physicians and creating fewer errors for medical coders. “The software gives physicians choices on their computer screen that allows them to easily comply with documentation requirements. Our challenge is to capture the small amount of time that physicians may spend dealing with this issue,” says Lucian Newman, III, M.D., founder and medical director of Com-plyMD. “As financial and compliance pressure increases I believe they will be convinced that this is time well spent.” For two years, ComplyMD has been quietly developing a web-based solution to aid physicians in quickly generating accurate and complete documentation of their procedures and diagnoses. ComplyMD was able to improve the software over time through feedback from physicians, medical coders and hospital administrators who used the product much of this past year during a hospital-based private beta test. Accurate documentation from physicians remains inadequate despite constant pleas from coding professionals and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Hospitals and other medical delivery systems are under increased pressure to operate with smaller margins, yet also must increase customer service. ComplyMD will help shorten the payment cycle, increase the doctor’s and delivery system’s capture of appropriate revenues for services rendered and be compliant at the same time. Plus, the system directly links the physicians, coders, and healthcare administrators in a way that opens the lines of communication, breaks down the physician-to-coder language barrier and results in more accurate coding.
