ENSURING OPTIMUM CARE TEMPERATURE WITH THE CARE THERMOMETER
The Care Thermometer can be used as a starting point to create conditions for a better working routine, resulting in an overall safer work environment and improved quality of care. The Care Thermometer is a free, easy-to-use, Web-based, self assessment tool for long term care and acute care facilities. It has been designed to provide an efficient and reliable overview of the present situation in the facility, in two specific areas: the physical care load and prevention policy in a unit or facility. In short, it provides a quick reading of the “care temperature.” Andra Forrest, product manager at Arjo Canada describes how it can help Canadian healthcare facilities: “It will pinpoint risk areas and prevent injuries from occurring.” The immediate demands of busy care environments can sometimes make it difficult to step back and look at the overall picture. Are caregivers exposed to unacceptable physical care loads? How can a preventative policy be fine-tuned? In answer to these and many other questions, Arjo is pleased to announce the development of the Care Thermometer.
Caregivers risk strain and back injury from the static and dynamic physical loads they may be exposed to throughout the course of their work. The Care Thermometer presents these physical care load risks visually in distinctive red (unacceptable/high risk), yellow (unsafe/medium risk), and green (safe/low risk), ultimately assisting facilities in the development of training activities targeted at reducing injury risks. The Care Thermometer allows users to assess the current situation in their facility today, and promotes the monitoring of care load exposure over time.
