The Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions division designs, manufactures, and markets a wide range of rotary drilling equipment, including models specifically designed for oil and gas, water well, surface mining, exploration, and shallow applications around the world. The divisional headquarters and main production plant is located in Garland, Texas, USA, with an additional manufacturing facilities in India and China.

Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions champions a “mixed fleet” approach for land-based drilling operations. The mixed fleet approach allows contractors with multiple rigs to drill surface holes and pre-set casing with a lower-cost, lightweight hydraulic top-head rig, such as the Atlas Copco RD20. Then, when the larger rig moves on location, it can connect and immediately begin drilling the deeper segments of the well. With this approach, both rigs perform at maximum efficiency, while each completes their parts of the drilling plan. In many cases, lightweight mobile rigs can rig up, drill and set surface casing in the same time it takes to rig up a conventional rig.  These mobile rigs can pre-set casing for several large rigs and still drill shallow E & P wells.
